Parodies in Contemporary American Ceramics

Abstract

       The use of the concept of parody in ceramics is a means of black humor, used by American potters throughout the artistic stages to reflect their doubts and rejection of traditional institutions, ideologies, and belief systems through rebellious mockery. Parody usually seeks to create a dialogue between the artist and the recipient, through which it can broadcast an inciting discourse against established and rejected appearances by the artist. Therefore, each parody has a goal that it seeks, and it is often symbolic and hidden, not apparent, such as these forms, such as humanity, animals, or industrial objects. From this, the research problem is established as follows: What are the motives for parody work, and how is it represented in contemporary American ceramics? What are the aesthetic features of these forms? Do they have a formal specificity that distinguishes them from other forms to become an artistic phenomenon?

       The ammar research was divided into four chapters. The first chapter included: defining the research problem, its importance and need for it. The research objective was: - Do you know satirical simulation in contemporary American ceramics?

Research boundaries

Subject boundaries: Study of contemporary American ceramic works with a satirical character

Spatial boundaries: Ceramic works completed by contemporary American artists in America

Time boundaries: (2015-2020) Due to the abundance of ceramic works that carry a satirical imitation character in this stage.

       Chapter Two: It included the theoretical framework in two sections: The first section dealt with: Parody, meaning and concept. The second section: Sarcasm of forms in contemporary American ceramics

While Chapter Three included: It included the research procedures, the research community, the selection of the study sample and the analysis of the research samples. This study concluded with a presentation of the most important results in Chapter Four, including:

- The parody act of parodying a scene in American ceramics requires a new model that differs from the original, according to the nature of the visual composition of the forms and the method of implementation.

- The ceramic scene in parody is linked to the visual characteristics of the image, by confirming the effectiveness of the meaning at the level of the signifier and the signified.

 Also, the most important conclusions raised were:

- The sarcastic action of the subject does not cancel the metaphysical aspect of the specificity of the contrast between it and the style of similarity and reformulation.

- The postmodern potter practices a sarcastic critical description, by reducing the features of the image and moving it to the extents of alienation and spontaneity.
