Abstract of the research

The current research dealt with the interpretation of the mental image in ancient Greek sculpture, which shed light on mental and other visual images in Greek sculpture, which the artist embodied and accomplished in his artistic works, to form images with different embodiments according to the culture of society, beliefs and myths. The research included four chapters. The first chapter dealt with the general framework of the research, which included the research problem, which ended with the following question: What is the interpretation of the mental image in ancient Greek sculpture? The research objective, which stipulates identifying the interpretation of the mental image in ancient Greek sculpture, as well as its importance, need for it, and its objective, spatial and temporal limits, which were limited to the era (the fourth and fifth centuries BC). While the second chapter included the theoretical framework and previous studies, two topics: the first (the concept of interpretation and the structure of the artistic image) and the second topic (the image and its representations in Greek art). Chapter Three (Research Procedures) included the research community and the research sample (5 models), the research methodology and the research tool to analyze the research sample models. The research also included the fourth chapter, the results and conclusions. Among the most important results reached by the research:

1. The mental images in ancient Greek sculpture were loaded in their sensory form and the accompanying perceptions with mythological and ideological data that were explained by the works - the research sample.

2. The concepts of the image varied in the meaning intended to be formulated as a thought for expression, representation, diagnosis and even imagination.

Among the conclusions:

1- The artist used his imagination and what he imagined about his gods and mixed it with the political conditions that existed at that time, which people dealt with daily.
