Abstract

Research Summary

This research focuses on the topic of "Abstraction and Experimentation in Contemporary Iraqi Painting." It comprises four chapters, the first of which addresses the research problem, posed by the question: How are abstraction and experimentation embodied in contemporary Iraqi painting? The chapter also discusses the importance and objective of the research (to define abstraction and experimentation in contemporary Iraqi painting). The scope of the research is limited to studying the concepts of abstraction and experimentation in Iraqi painting during the period 1999-2025. This is followed by a definition of key terms. The second chapter (the theoretical framework) includes two sections: the first examines "Abstraction and Experimentation in Art," while the second focuses on the paintings of Iraqi artists (experiments and abstractions). Chapter Three (Research Procedures) included the framework of the research community, the research sample of (4) drawn models selected purposively, the research instrument, and the analysis of the sample models. Chapter Four (Research Results, Conclusions, Recommendations, and Suggestions) included the following key findings:

1.  The expressive and symbolic values inherent in the forms have deepened. The visible object no longer imposes pressure on the artist but rather subjects it to a subjective vision that guides the forms to adopt abstract formal relationships.

2.  The prevalence of the design style among many Iraqi artists, its integration with abstract styles, and the act of experimentation have resulted in impactful formal formulations that have enhanced the maturity of the aesthetic meaning of the ideal and the sensory.
