Abstract

Abstrac

The current research examines the concept of infinity in the ceramics of Sueharu Fukami as an aesthetic and philosophical concept that goes beyond the limits of the closed material form. The research problem is represented by the following question: What are the manifestations of infinity in the ceramics of Sueharu Fukami? The study assumes that contemporary ceramic work is no longer confined to its traditional functional role, but has become a visual and intellectual field capable of producing meanings that transcend the limits of material and form.

The research aims to identify infinity in the ceramics of Sueharu Fukami, within objective limits concerned with his ceramic works, spatial limits represented by Japan, and temporal limits extending from 1990 to 2022. The theoretical framework includes two main sections. The first section discusses the concept of infinity through philosophical and aesthetic approaches, and its relationship with the sublime, abstraction, and reduction. The second section addresses contemporary ceramics and its transformations from function to concept, in addition to contemporary Japanese ceramics between heritage and experimentation.

The third chapter includes the research procedures, as the study adopts the descriptive analytical method in examining a purposive sample consisting of four ceramic works by Sueharu Fukami. These works were selected because they represent different stages and directions in the artist’s experience. The fourth chapter is devoted to the research findings and conclusions.
