Abstract

Research Summary:

This research examines digital culture and its manifestations in contemporary art, using the "Returning Modernism" movement as a model. It comprises four chapters. The first chapter outlines the research problem, its significance, the need for it, its objectives and limitations, and defines key terms. The current research problem encompasses the digital impact of art in general, and visual art in particular. This impact is manifested in the exploration of scientific methodology and its constraints, which have led to a separation of form from content or meaning. This separation, in reality, represents a disconnection from external references and the meanings they convey. The digital transformation of the mobile phone has become an essential, even indispensable, tool in light of the dominance of digital culture in developed societies. It is now a means of understanding and effective participation with others through social media and various other activities, reflecting the pervasive influence of digital culture. Affirming the scientific view that art is knowledge similar to other human knowledge, and digital culture as a cognitive system that plays a significant role in influencing various fields of culture, including the visual arts, contemporary art has gone so far as to establish a new relationship between reality and image. It has attempted to offer an interpretation of reality based on the artist's subjective vision and the resulting changes in visual relationships within the painting or artwork. Hence, the researcher found it necessary to address and investigate digital culture and the artistic data that emerged from the artists of the revivalist modernist movement. The current research problem is defined by the following question: What is digital culture, and is it represented in contemporary art? If so, how is it embodied in the arts of the revivalist modernist movement?

The research aims to uncover (digital culture and its representations in contemporary art). The research scope is as follows: First: Thematic scope: A study of the visual representations of the revivalist modernist movement and the representations of digital culture in contemporary art. Second: Temporal scope: (2001–2014) CE. Third: Geographical scope: Europe. And America

The second chapter included the theoretical framework and consisted of two sections: the first covered the concept of digital culture, while the second examined the foundations of digital culture in contemporary art trends.

The third chapter analyzed the research sample of three participants, and the fourth chapter presented the research findings, which included:

1) The importance of digital culture lies in its ability to reveal the functionalities of artistic texts within the works of contemporary modernism and their interpretation according to a range of visual perceptions and mental and intellectual influences.

2) Digital culture influences the reflection of sensory experience in contemporary artworks, including contemporary modernism, which has transformed into an active force in cultural activities.

The research concluded with a list of references.
