Abstract

Summary

This research focuses on the development and enrichment of educational curricula for the cello, with particular emphasis on integrating Kurdish musical heritage with modern technical methods of cello instruction. The study aims to elucidate the role of Kurdish folk melodies in enhancing the educational content for the cello, which is regarded as a classical instrument with expressive flexibility and wide tonal capabilities. It addresses the gap between traditional Western-oriented teaching methods and the local cultural environment in Kurdistan, where Kurdish musical heritage, characterized by its modal and improvisational qualities as well as its rich melodic, modal, and rhythmic elements, provides a unique opportunity to enrich these curricula, enhance performers’ skills, and contribute to the preservation of Kurdish musical heritage and cultural identity. Furthermore, this approach facilitates the accelerated development of students’ technical abilities by adapting Kurdish melodies into integrated instructional units that combine tradition with modernity.
