Abstract

The current research, entitled "The Intellectual Contents of the Formal Formulations of Moatasem Al-Kubaisi's Sculptures," examines the contents formulated by the sculptor in his sculptural achievements. Human intellectual concepts are merely an expression of human reality and the expression of contents that represent the issues of his time in a contemporary style. The artistic output he presents bears the stamp of the local and popular culture to which he belongs. Hence, the research problem emerged in the form of a question: What are the intellectual contents of the formal formulations of Moatasem Al-Kubaisi's sculptures? Sculptural works consist of compositional elements such as line, mass, space, texture, shadow, and light, which are essential tools in shaping the form. Therefore, the sculptor used the foundations and elements of the composition of the artwork for various and diverse formulations that serve goals and objectives that distinguish them from other sculptural formulations belonging to contemporary artistic styles and schools in the creation of his sculptures. They came to embody scenes of human life under the circumstances that Iraqi society has lived and continues to live.
