Abstract

The current research dealt with the subject of new historicism in contemporary pop art and the impact of new historicism on ceramics, as the research contained four chapters, the first chapter concerned with the methodological framework that presents the research problem, which is defined by the following question: What are the new historicism in contemporary pop art?

The first chapter dealt with the importance of research and the need for it, which was determined as follows:

  • In describing the new historicism as a postmodern critical trend, it is necessary to shed light on it.
  • It is useful for scholars and researchers in the field of ceramics in the faculties of fine arts, as it sheds light on a new critical trend and its projections on ceramics.

It also contained the aim of the research, which is to identify the new works of historicism in contemporary pop art ceramics, and the limits of the research were limited to studying contemporary European ceramic works confined in the period between 2004-2016, and then identifying and defining the most important terms contained in the research.

As for the second chapter, it contained two chapters. The first chapter dealt with the emergence of new historicism. The second chapter dealt with the cognitive dimension of the new historicism in contemporary plastic art, leading to the results of the theoretical framework of indicators, which the researcher adopted as a criterion and basis in the process of description and analysis of the models of the selected sample, and then previous studies. .

The third chapter was devoted to research procedures, including the research community, which included (25) ceramic works, and the sample was represented by (3) ceramic works.

The fourth chapter included the results, the most important of which are:

  • Each work of art is the result of a specific cultural circumstance that governs the creator's thinking and methods of dealing with his tools and stylistic treatments that are consistent with the arts of his time and environment, which are ways to activate the various forms of ancient forces, ideas and ideologies that are retrieved and activated within the text.
  • Every artistic creation that moves within the frameworks of the new historicism raises questions about political power and its impact on art in a special form of dialectical criticism between the individual and his social and cultural environment. It tries to look at the individual, whether he is an author or a reader of the text within a larger context, especially within social structures .

In light of the results and their discussion, the researcher came out with the following conclusions:

  • Western intellectual, cultural, and artistic institutions try to impersonate the heritage of other peoples and reincarnate it as contemporary Western art after isolating it from its original roots and confiscating its ancient history and heritage. The current study concluded with sources, appendices, and a summary of the research in English.
