Abstract:
The research entitled "Features of Distortion of the Human Figure in Modern Painting" deals with the study of the works of European artists, focusing on the pressures behind this distortion, whether psychological or artistic, exploring the impact of events such as World War II, as well as the impact of the previous works of some artists on the styles of others. It includes four chapters, the first chapter (methodological framework) contained the question of the research problem (What are the features of distortion of the human figure in modern art?) The aim of the research is to identify these features, and the objective limits are to address the artistic achievements that include distortion by modern artists and executed in oil on canvas, and the time period from (1916-1932 AD), and the spatial in Europe and defining the research terms.
The second chapter (the theoretical framework) included the first topic (the concept of distortion in philosophical thought), and the second topic (the theme of distortion in modern European painting), and the chapter ended with the theoretical framework. The third chapter (procedures) contained the research community, its sample of (3) models, its tool, its method and sample analysis.
Chapter Four included the research results and conclusions. The most prominent results reached by the research are: 1. The artist excelled in expressing the unity of his subject in different ways, as he deliberately concealed part of it. 2. Modern artists did not disclose the fine details in many of their artistic productions as much as they were interested in the idea of the subject. As for the conclusions, the most important of them are: 1. By distorting the human form, artists break the traditional concept of beauty and open the door to new visions, as they see that true beauty lies in revealing the truth even if it is distorted.
