Realism in Hellenistic art

Abstract

Abstract :

This research is concerned with the study of (realism in Hellenistic art), which is located in four chapters: The first chapter included a presentation of the research problem, which is defined by the following question: Is there a realistic tendency and its reflection on Hellenistic art, and the importance of the research and the need for it came in terms of identifying the manifestations of realism and developing a base or map of knowledge for Hellenistic arts. The objective of the study is to: (identify the tendency of realism and its repercussions on Hellenistic art), and determine the research by studying artworks (sculpture) specifically, which is represented by the tendency of realism and its repercussions on the Hellenistic art formation. The second chapter: it included the theoretical framework and previous studies, which contained two sections: I mean the first section (the study of conceptual realism), has embraced the second section (Hellenistic art) has specialized the third section (Hellenistic art) and concluded the theoretical framework with a set of indicators, and previous studies.  The third chapter dealt with the research procedures, which included the identification of the research community, which amounted to (35) sculptural work, the selection of the research sample of (3) sculpture works, then the research tool and sample analysis.  What is the ...

What is the fourth chapter? It includes the results of the research, conclusions, recommendations and proposals. Among the most important findings of the study are the following:

1.    The relationship between manifestations of realism and its repercussions on Hellenistic art was part of the overall relationships that control society as a whole, and work to define its special character and even determine the nature of artistic subjects in it, according to the transformations from one era to another.

2.    The ancient Roman civilization had a clear impact on all the results of the research sample and used it as a tool of knowledge to build the surrounding world as symbolic forms prevailing in human consciousness in an indispensable way, which turns that system into a tool of domination in the hands of interests.

3.    The adoption of Hellenistic art, in many works of sculpture, came to be affected in the Hellenistic period by the embodiment of the form in the works of sculpture in a way that depended on the realistic or natural form, and in some of them it was indicative in its significance in reducing the subject.

The fourth chapter also included a set of recommendations and proposals, and the study concluded with a list of sources and references.
