Hysteria is a common psychological illness that affects various segments of society as a result of the social and political factors experienced by individuals. This research demonstrates that theater reflects a concern with psychological and social issues affecting society. Since the Greek era, playwrights have used psychological phenomena as dramatic tools to highlight characters' internal conflicts and social tensions through theater, which serves as a mirror for society. Hysteria and other pathological psychological conditions have been employed in theatrical drama to reflect the disturbances resulting from war, poverty, oppression, and other factors.

Therefore, this research is divided into four chapters. The first chapter includes (the methodological framework of the research) and the research problem represented by the following question: (What is the hysterical character in contemporary Iraqi theatrical texts?) The researcher identified the importance and need for the research in its treatment of the term hysteria and its description as one of the psychological concepts that reflect specific disorders that appear in some characters. He emphasized the importance of accurate diagnosis of the pathological condition by tracing the symptoms apparent in the dramatic character within the theatrical text, as well as shedding light on the hysterical character in contemporary Iraqi theatrical texts. As for the need for it, the research benefits students and researchers in the field of theatrical psychology, and contributes to enhancing the cognitive and psychological aspects of students, institutes and colleges of fine arts, and provides them with the necessary information in this field. The research aims to identify the hysterical character in contemporary Iraqi theater. The research was set temporally (2010), spatially (Iraq), and objectively (studying the hysterical character in contemporary Iraqi theatrical text). The chapter concluded by defining and identifying terms. The second chapter (the theoretical framework of the research) included two sections. The first section dealt with (studying the hysterical character in philosophical thought), while the second section dealt with studying (the hysterical character in global theatrical text). The chapter concluded with indicators of the theoretical framework. Chapter Three (Research Procedures) included the research community, which included one theatrical text (Oil Slick), which was chosen intentionally. The researcher adopted the descriptive and analytical approach in his research, and concluded the chapter with an analysis of the research sample. Chapter Four included the most important results, including:

- This model focused clearly on mental illness, as the researcher considered it closer to hysteria than other psychological conditions.
