Abstract:
Amidst rapid urban expansion and increasing isolation from natural environments, the problem of interior space design emerges, often neglecting to integrate natural elements effectively and purposefully, leading to negative repercussions on the mental and physical health and productivity of the user of the interior space. The research addresses the dialectical relationship between Biophilia, as an innate human tendency toward nature, and the design of interior spaces, and the strategies it proposes that direct design toward patterns and considerations that enhance the user's connection to space. Therefore, the research problem crystallized into the following question: " What are the design strategies based on the concept of Biophilia in interior spaces? What are their patterns and design considerations? How can they be employed to enhance positive connection to space?" The research aimed to "identify the concept of Biophilia and its design strategies in interior space."
The theoretical framework addressed the study of the concept of Biophilia in interior design, and its design strategies in interior space. The research adopted the case study approach to arrive at accurate results. The research community was limited to the design works of international conference centers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The research came out with a set of results and conclusions, the most important of which are:
• The strategy highlights the nature of the place experience in biophilic design, through achieving a broad and extended perspective, and including the principle of privacy for some places, in addition to activating the principle of suspense to deepen interaction with the place and provide an immersive experience for the user that deepens the cognitive awareness of the place and enhances the connection to it.
