Characteristics of drawings by psychologically maladjusted adolescents

Research Summary

Art in general, and drawing in particular, serves as a fundamental means of exploring the depths of the human personality. It offers a non-verbal confession of the emotions and feelings that an individual might shy away from expressing directly. These are often embedded in their drawings in a veiled or ambiguous manner, or transcended in a psychological sense.

Given the critical importance of adolescence in shaping personality, coupled with the accompanying physical and psychological transformations that can burden teenagers and make them more susceptible to psychological issues, there's an increased risk of disorders that most psychologists attribute to maladjustment.

The current research aimed to clarify the relationship between maladjustment and the characteristics of drawings among 16-year-old adolescents. To achieve this objective, the following null hypothesis was formulated:

* There is no relationship between maladjustment and the characteristics of adolescent drawings at a significance level of (0.05).

The original research sample consisted of 208 students distributed across two schools. The study required the use of two instruments:

1. The first instrument, Al-Zammali's scale, was used to measure maladjustment after its validity and reliability were confirmed.

2. The second instrument, Bouhia's scale, was used to measure adolescent drawings after its validity and reliability were confirmed.

Among the findings, the researcher concluded that maladjustment is related to some characteristics of adolescent drawings, but not to others. It was observed that maladjustment is related to the appearance of (20 ) distinct characteristics in adolescent drawings by psychologically maladjusted.
