Abstract

Abstract
This research explores the history and evolution of musical notation, from early human attempts to record sounds to the maturation of the notation system in the Baroque era. It begins with the premise that musical notation was not merely a technical means of preserving sounds, but a cultural phenomenon deeply intertwined with religious, cultural, and educational contexts. The research examines various documentary examples, starting with the cuneiform tablets of Mesopotamian civilizations, then the Greek alphabet, the neo-calendar system of the Middle Ages, Guido d'Arrizo's contributions to standardizing lines and pitches, and finally the emergence of the staff and the development of time values. The research also highlights the role of religious institutions and printing in disseminating notation, standardizing performance, and paving the way for the Baroque standard notation system, which became the foundation of modern musical notation.
