Abstract:
This study presents a philosophical analysis of the concept of serious irony in contemporary industrial products, framing it as a critical strategy that transcends mere formal satire. Serious irony is activated as a mechanism for reinterpreting symbols and contexts, thereby stimulating the user's critical perception. It is manifested in the paradox between formal simplicity and functional complexity, inviting the user to reinterpret the product without mocking them. Moreover, seriously ironic design adopts a critical philosophical stance that challenges clarity and stability, prompting a re-examination of concepts such as truth, identity, and function. It also interrogates modern individualism by highlighting the tension between freedom and isolation, as well as between subjectivity and belonging. Through this, the industrial product is endowed with a humanistic and epistemic dimension that goes beyond utilitarian function, establishing design as a philosophical and dialogical medium in confronting the challenges of the postmodern era.
