Cultural pluralism in the discourse of contemporary Iraqi theatrical performance (The Savage Wedding play as a model)

Research Summary

Theatre has a fundamental role in blending cultures, creating a new culture, and dissolving traditional barriers through dramatic performances that transcend geographical and cultural obstacles. Contemporary theatre exercises an effective transformative force in enhancing understanding and respect for other cultures by consolidating cooperation and cultural exchange. The study included four chapters, the first of which defined the research problem, which was summarized in the following question: (To what extent do hybrid cultures influence contemporary Iraqi theatre?) and explaining its importance and its spatial, temporal, and thematic limits. The researcher defined the following terms (hybridization, culture, cultural hybridization). The second chapter formed a theoretical framework for the study, which included two sections: the first: the concept of cultural hybridization, and the second section: cultural hybridization in global theatre. The chapter concluded with the most prominent indicators that resulted from the theoretical framework. I devoted the third chapter to research procedures by adopting the descriptive method in analysis. I relied on the indicators in analyzing my sample, and concluded with the most prominent results I reached through analyzing the sample, and the conclusions that showed the influence of colonial culture on the literature of the colonized countries even after their independence.
