Abstract
This research examines the manifestations of psychological insight in modern European painting. It comprises four chapters. The first chapter defines the research problem, which is defined by answering the following question: What are the manifestations of psychological insight in modern European painting? The research's significance lies in highlighting the concept of psychological insight, identifying its applications in modern European painting, understanding the relationship between visual arts and psychology, and opening new horizons for employing art as a therapeutic, educational, and humanistic tool by emphasizing the culture of therapy. The current research aims to identify the manifestations of psychological insight in modern European painting. The research has thematic boundaries, represented by studying the manifestations of psychological insight in modern European painting through the analysis of paintings from the Impressionist, Expressionist, Cubist, Abstract, and Surrealist schools. Its temporal boundaries extend from 1889 to 1946, and its geographical boundaries are Europe. The most important terms used in the research are defined as "manifestation," "intuition," and "psychological insight) . ) The second chapter, the theoretical framework, comprised two sections. The first section addressed the intellectual frameworks of the concept of psychological insight, while the second section examined psychological approaches in modern European painting. The theoretical framework concluded with a set of intellectual and structural indicators. The third chapter detailed the research procedures, including the research population (85) paintings, the research sample (5) paintings selected purposively, the research instrument, and the research methodology .
Chapter Four included the research findings, conclusions, recommendations, and suggestions. Among the findings were the following:
1-The process of psychological exploration was clearly evident in modern European painting schools and constituted a central mechanism in constructing pictorial scenes by exploring inner worlds and revealing the depths of the self through painting, as demonstrated in all the examples in the research sample.
2-Modern European painting scenes achieved psychological exploration for both the artist and the viewer. The artist is liberated from internal pressures through symbolic expression, and the viewer finds in the artwork an opportunity to understand themselves, beginning to discover their repressed motives and feelings, thus creating a cycle of understanding and psychological catharsis for both parties, as demonstrated in all the examples in the research sample.
