The Aesthetic Characteristics of the Basil Script Formations: A Case Study of Ibn al-Bawwab

     The researcher addressed the aesthetic characteristics of the "Basil Script" formations, using Ibn al-Bawwab as a model. The research was divided into four chapters. In the first chapter, titled "Methodological Framework," the researcher presented the research problem, which was articulated in the following question: "What are the aesthetic characteristics of the Basil Script formations?" The second chapter included the theoretical framework and previous studies, divided into two sections: the first section discussed "The Origin and Development of the Basil Script," while the second section focused on "The Aesthetic Characteristics of the Basil Script."

In the third chapter, titled "Research Procedures," the researcher employed a descriptive analytical method and selected samples purposefully. The fourth chapter encompassed the findings, conclusions, recommendations, and suggestions, followed by a list of sources and references.

The key findings and conclusions are summarized as follows: it was found that the most prevalent directional orientation of the Basil Script is the soft horizontal line in linear formations. Additionally, the conclusions indicated that reliance on the reading and recitation aspects as an aesthetic and functional dimension of linear formations was sufficient to endorse the Basil Script for transcribing the Holy Quran, noble Hadiths, prayers, and smaller texts. This is attributed to its fine, soft penmanship and its capacity to write in a simple sequential linear formation.
