The concept of the mask and its semantic preoccupations in body art

Abstract

 

The current research dealt with the theme of the mask as an artistic concept and not a material or semantic representation of something, but rather considering the body itself as a mask that is formed according to the artist's vision and desire to express the precursors of the lived reality and its contradictions. The following: What is the concept of the mask and its representations in body art according to the theses of the semiotics of communication? The chapter also contained the importance of the research and its aim, which is to identify the concept of the mask and its representations in body art, as well as the limits and terminology of the research. As for the second chapter, it included three topics about me, the first of which dealt with the nature of the mask historically and artistically, while the second dealt with body art in terms of style and performance, while the third concerned the study of the semiotics of communication and its applications in the art of visual formation. The third chapter contained the research community, its sample, and its methodology, as the researchers followed the method (qualitative content analysis) in their research to analyze the sample. As for the fourth chapter, it concerned the research results, conclusions, recommendations, and proposals. Among its results, the concept of the mask for body artists is considered a broad aesthetic knowledge system rather than a behavior. An art directed towards a human body. The artist also employed the concept of the mask in his productions as an aesthetic means that increases the cohesion of the self with the world, through the realization of the artist’s intent and purpose. and fine arts institutes.
