Abstract

Abstract:

The current research dealt with the study (War and Peace in Modern European Painting), which shed light on the representations of mental and other visual images of war and peace in modern formation and how the modern artist embodied them in his artistic works, as they constituted a landmark in modern and contemporary painting alike. The research included four important chapters.. The first chapter concerned the methodological framework of the research, which included the problem of the research, which ended with the question: What are the mechanisms of application of images of war and peace in modern painting? The aim of the research was to reveal the representations of war and peace in modern European painting, as well as the importance of research and its objective limits in the art of modern painting and its spatial and temporal boundaries in Europe in the period between (1792-1949 AD).

While the second chapter was concerned with the theoretical framework and previous studies, which included two chapters, the first came under the title: The concept of war and peace in philosophical thought, which shed light on the philosophical and cognitive concepts of the topic. While the second topic was entitled: Applications of images of war and peace in art through the ages. The third chapter is concerned with the research procedures that include the research population (100) and its sample (3), the research methodology, and the sample analysis. While the fourth chapter dealt with the results and conclusions, the most important results are:

  • The themes of war and peace took a distinct place in the drawings of modern art in Europe, so the artists produced many works dealing with scenes of war and peace combined or each of them separately.
  • The modernist artists were affected by the repercussions of the war, laden with grief, sorrow and pain for the killing, destruction and killing of the human being in the multiple chapters of the successive external and internal wars.

And the conclusions which were:

  • The modern European artist presented many war scenes stored in the memory of European society and his personal memory.
