Research Summary:
This research is concerned with the study of (Modernity and its representations in the drawings of Faeq Hassan) and it falls into three chapters. The problem of the current research included the subject of (Modernity and its representations in the drawings of Faeq Hassan) The arena of Iraqi intellectual and cultural dialogue witnessed an unprecedented state of development in the stages of human civilizational thought, and the trends of modern Iraqi formation crystallized through the continuous artistic giving of successive generations of artists The Iraqis who completed their studies in the Iraqi institutes and academies of fine arts at the hands of these artists and their contemporaries, and who called for renouncing the used artistic methods and adopting modern expressive visions and methods, by delving into various paths and experiences of artistic expression that are more diverse and richer, by drawing inspiration from Western modernist ideas along with Employing local artistic vocabulary such as Islamic and traditional arts. Thus, the Iraqi plastic process witnessed the emergence of dozens of distinguished Iraqi artists with their various modernist artistic styles, through the establishment of many artistic groups, especially by the pioneer artists who completed their artistic academic studies in Western countries, as these artists adopted artistic styles. Which keep pace with the new ideas of modernity aesthetically and intellectually, in addition to the inspiration of the Mesopotamian cultural heritage and the popular heritage, as they excelled in the completion of hundreds of works and distinguished artistic plastic productions that were popular and spread at the Arab and international levels.
The leading plastic artist (Faiq Hassan) is considered the first founder of the art of modern Iraqi painting at the forefront of contemporary Iraqi painters. Many of his works were distinguished by their modernist features through the use of his artistic expertise, talent, and his artistic academic studies in France, as well as his inspiration for the values and meanings of the ancient artistic treasures of the rich Iraqi local heritage. With his multiplicity of sources, as all these factors, along with his skill and his spirit of perseverance, giving, and permanent presence in most local and international art exhibitions, contributed to the acquisition of Faeq Hassan’s works by a unique artistic style that remains associated with his name to this day. The problem of the current research was identified in light of the answer to the following question: What are the Modernity and its representations in the drawings of Faeq Hassan? How do you prostrate that formally?
The current research aims to identify: the features of modernity in the works of the artist Faeq Hassan) and the limits of the research:
First: the objective limits: studying the illustrations of artistic productions with different materials and raw materials. Second: Temporal boundaries: (1940-1990) AD. Third: spatial borders: Iraq, while the second chapter included the theoretical framework and consisted of two sections:
the first included (modernity in the foundation and the concept), while the second section was concerned with studying (representations of modernity in Iraqi painting, selected models). As for the third chapter, which included the analysis of the research sample, amounting to (5) models, by the late artist Faeq Hassan, and the fourth chapter was concerned with (results of the research), including:
1.The characteristics of modernity for the artist Faeq Hassan varied through his use of different materials in the composition of artworks, which contributed to increasing the area of his artistic experience.
- Modernity is clearly represented by the artist Faeq Hassan by giving the visual formulations a dynamic sense in showing the existential struggle between man and the world.
