Abstract

Abstract

The design characteristics of traditional fashion are embodied in the creative ideas stemming from the designer's imagination and enlightened thinking, showcasing the features of cultural diversity. This is achieved through the utilization of various shapes in the design of women's fashion fabrics to create visual appeal, thereby enhancing communicative interaction with the recipient.

The problem addressed in the current research arises in the first chapter with the following question: What are the design characteristics and their representations in traditional fashion fabrics? Thus, the research aimed to uncover the design characteristics and their representations in traditional fashion fabrics. The second chapter begins with the first section, which explains the design characteristics in traditional fashion fabrics, followed by the second section, which discusses the design techniques in fashion fabrics. The second chapter concludes with the indicators of the theoretical framework. The third chapter includes the research procedures, consisting of the research methodology and its sample, which comprised 12 models. A purposive non-probability sample of 3 models, representing 25%, was selected. Finally, the fourth chapter presents the most important research findings as follows:

1- The designer employed historical Babylonian symbolic shapes derived from the Babylonian civilization, representing a historical cultural symbol passed down through generations, embodying the quality of cultural heritage. This symbol refers to the Babylonian winged bull depicted at the lower part of the garment. The designer expressed the visual element of the winged bull in a unique manner that mimics reality and captures attention, evoking interest and excitement, as seen in model (1).

2- The design characteristics are distinguished by the use of shapes derived from Sumerian civilization, represented by the lyre, one of the oldest stringed musical instruments in history, as seen in model (3).

The conclusions included:

1- The components of heritage, important events, and history are drawn by the designer from their surroundings, not randomly, but with careful selection based on their intrinsic value. This value is derived from the fact that they are powerful emotional influences on the recipient 's psyche.

2- The success of a design work is represented by the use of visual forms that connect people, drawing its strength from the meaning that the designer imparts to these symbols. Design, as part of the phenomenon of art, plays a significant role in profoundly changing society and culture.
