Abstract

Abstract

This research examines the levels of intertextuality of the stories of the holy books in the contemporary Iraqi theatrical text, considering that religious intertextuality is one of the most important literary tools that enhance the depth of the theatrical text, and reflects a state of interaction between theatrical literature and the sacred texts and the stories they contain.

The research reveals how writers draw inspiration from the stories of the sacred texts, and also studies the mechanisms used in formulation and use. Intertextuality is in the form of quoting verses from the holy books, or with a rhetorical style, and it may be indicative and used for symbolic projections that increase the depth of the events of the play. The research includes four chapters. The first is to introduce the research problem, its importance, and its objectives. The second chapter includes two sections, the first is intertextuality and its levels, and the second is the intertextuality of the stories of the Holy Books and an explanation of the indicators of the theoretical framework. The third chapter included an analysis of the play (When Will the Bells Ring), and the fourth chapter included the results of the research and an index of the sources.
