Abstract

Abstract  :

     The human body is considered a problem that still exists as it represents the physical presence of man. The importance of the body’s presence has varied according to the circumstances that society experiences at every stage, and according to the existing authority, whether religious or worldly, primitive or civilized, and the care it gives to that subject, and through the problem of the body what Between the concepts of the sacred and the profane, and a reflection on the subject of the body in artistic photography.

   The research included four chapters. The first chapter represented the research problem, which was defined by the following question: What are the representations of the body between the sacred and the profane in world art? The chapter included the importance of research and the need for it, and the goal of the research represented by (identifying representations of the body between the sacred and the profane in world art, “the Renaissance and post-modernism as a model”), while the limits of the research were limited to studying the artistic achievements of the time period (1490-1520 AD) (1970_ 1990 AD) in Europe and the United States of America. The first chapter ended by defining the most important terms included in the research. As for the second chapter, it contained three sections that represent the theoretical framework. In the first section: The intellectual discourse of the human body throughout history. The second section was entitled The cognitive concept of the sacred and the profane, while the third section came: Representations of the sacred. And the profane in art, and the researcher came up with a set of indicators that resulted from the theoretical framework. As for the third chapter (research procedures), by defining the research community and its representative sample, ending with an analysis of the research sample of (4) works of art (two works by artists from the Renaissance era and two works by artists from the Renaissance period). Postmodernism ) The fourth chapter included a number of results, the most important of which are :

  • Imparting the character of holiness to the bodies of socially sacred figures, such as the halos of heads, colors, and clothing. The church transformed the sacred from being an endowment for the divine essence into a political authority.
